Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton’s ‘One Tree Hill’ Exit: All About the Benjamins?
It sounds like the mystery behind Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton‘s exit from One Tree Hill has been solved—and the question mark appears to hav been replaced by a dollar sign.
TV Guide reports that CW entertainment president Dawn Ostroff addressed the actors’ departure during the network’s upfront presentation on Thursday—and from the way she tells it, it wasn’t the network’s decision to part ways with them.
“We tried to get them to stay; we would have been thrilled if they wanted to,” Ostroff told reporters.
Murray and Burton—who’d been with the show since its 2003 debut—were both in lengthy contract negotiations at the time of the parting. If the network had been making every effort to keep them happy, as Ostroff suggests, could there be any other reason for the split besides the money?
During a recent interview, Burton—who’s moving on shoot a Web series starting on Memorial Day—noted that “money isn’t necessarily a big motivator for me.” While she didn’t reveal the precise reason for her departure from the show, Burton noted, “Everyone was kind of agreeable about the situation.”
If the CW’s Ostroff is to be believed, that will probably come as news to the network.
How can they leave??? The whole show is about Peyton and Lucas!!!! They can’t leave, there will be no more reason for One Tree Hill!!!!!!
I agree!! How the hell do you have ONE TREE HILL without chad michael murray and hillary burton??? LUCAS was the main character when it started and now he’s not gonna be on it??? IT WAS ALL ABOUT LEYTON!!! i’m not belittling the other couples because i love them too.. but you cant just get rid of them!!
Why would we believe what the Network says, they’re just covering their ass. I believe Hilarie, she said in her video it was about creative control, aka Mark Shwalm. Good luck to Mark, I hope he gets better writers for season 7 or it’s the end of the road for OTH.

i am glad they are leaving. their characters are so self-involved and annoying to listen to. I used to fast forward all their scenes. OTH is going to get so much better without them, especially with other story lines and characters they can bring it. and besides, i think OTH will probably bring them back occasionally because they didnt kill them off in the finale.

okey, producers, directors & those of you in charge; seriously! you’re losing your main characters. why go on? I mean I loooove the show and all, haven’t missed one single episode! but lately I’ve started to feel like you’re just “draging” the plot. OTH isn’t what it used to be – I still feel attached to the show, weep a bit every now and then, get it a good mood and all, but that might be because I “grew” up with the show. It is not that good anymore, and you have no idea how much that hurts for me to say! On top of it all; losing some of the main characters! – it’s time to let go! give it a dignified ending, with a double episode – perhabs a movie? but seriously guys. it’s time to let go. :/

Yay! I am sooo happy about this!! Leyton really ruined the season 6 with their VERY boring storyline! I mean, all they ever did was walking around in their house talking about their love for one and other…enough is enough! Let`s hope they bring someone new with a little more drama to their storyline. We need a new bad girl now that Brooke has become nice. She is still my favorite character though

I totaly agree, OTH isnt the same without Lucas and Peyton, they are the show! I dont think i’m gonna continue looking at OTH. The last episode of season 6 was a happy ending to everyone, and when Chad Michael Murray and Hiliarie Burton not gonna be on the show next season then i dont really see the point of countinuing follow OTH anymore. I love everyone else to, as Brooke, Nayley and everyone, but i’ve gotten my happy ending now.. But it is sad though, cause we have all ‘grown up’ with OTH.
Chad Michael Murray is so hot – I whould watch the show just to see his beautiful face! So I really hope that they don’t quit.

where did you get the idea that you are even right, why don’t you just not watch the show because it is practically all about her and chad’s characters. you just make some stupid crap up because you, like a few others, are jealous of what you don’t have. remember, she said that she was not the creative director and the decision was not all her own, so back off and think before you say something, and i love how you’re too much of a wuss that if you got the chance you would’nt say that to her face, you hide behind the internet.
Seriously One Tree Hill should just end if they’re going to leave they’re like the main characters, even if Peyton’s only secondary, One Tree Hill has always been about Lucas!! I think it is sad that the brilliant show my fav will most likely end now. It lacked that edge this past season, but it was still good. Without Lucas being the voice and poetic mind and Peyton’s strong will to go on it will ruin the show! Thats just a shame!
I am a die hard fan and although sophia bush is my favourite character,i am gutted that they are leaving each of there characters brought something fresh to the show something that everyone can relate 2 in some point in their life,i am rly gutted that there leaving bt im glad weve still got nailey and brooke rather than have a whole new cast,and start again frm scratch like many shows,weve grown 2 love the characters,n our rock chick and our mr chad mc fine r leaving us bt i know regardless im going 2 keep on watching it and if i ever meet mark schwann i will thank him for this awesome entertainment we call one tree hill.
I honestly think the show will be great with out “peyton” I think she’s tottally self centered, its time for someone else to get the light.

My heart has broken. I just started getting attached to One Tree Hill from watching it on soapnet. I really got into OTH, that I went to Best Buy and bought the dvds for season 1-4. Then when CW started airing season 5 on tv, I became excited because I for once finally found a show that I could relate to and enjoy. Season 6 aired, I was so happy for the characters, they were beginning to for once become happy and their careers were about to take off. I will not watch Season 7, you have lost a valuable viewer. Chad was one tree hill and i dont understand why you would rather lose the main characters because guess what not only have you lost them by you have lose a lot of valuable viewers. One Tree Hill, season 7, cancelled in episode 4. I guess I need to find another show, and I can work on Monday nights now.

the producers should have found a way of ending OTH in season 6, instead of going on to 7 with the main characters gone without any reasonable excuse or death . even if u replace them with other characters the play can never be the same, LUCAS and PEYTON grew with this programme, anything should ve been done to kip them in it. OTH WILL DEFINATELY LOSE FANS.

What’s OTH without Michael and Hilarie. They are the heart of the series. As for me season 6 is the last season for me. And all you haters of Hilarie, get a life u guys are just jealous. I mean how could any body in their rite senses call her ugly. As for the producers of OTH, you should have just ended it with season 6 cos they all got their happy endings. Uhh where do you get that she was secondary? The show was about her, did you and i watch the same pilot? It was her and Lucas. Both of them, one. They made up everyone seeing that Brooke wasn’t even in the pilot. She was added, and of course there was Nathan but he was an ass. I believe that they wil regret getting rid of Chad and Hilarie for like it or not brucas fans or people that HATE them, dislike them, but without them we would not be in love with this show. You kept watching it, to see what happened to them. If they were not on it, they would be no where. I fail to understand why some people like to post negative things about Michael and Hilarie. I mean they both act well and they are human just like every other person and OTH will neva be the same without them. We spent and dedicated 6 years to the show and i’ve grown to love them. And then some1 calls Hilarie an ugly, stupid actress and anoder calls her selfish and other stuffs and i can’t help but wonder wot they’ve achieved in their lives which am sure is nothing. Give them a break they’ve got blood flowing thru them. And without those two, there is no OTH at least for me.

I want them backed…..I’m bummed! I love haley (joy) and nathan (james) too. I mean I’m not saying get rid of the new people , they have had plenty of characters before all on at the same time… I have purchased seasons 1-5 on dvd, but I am pretty sure I wont be watching season 7. Guess I will just watch old reruns on dvd to remember how it used to be and to check out hotties James and Chad …. Check out Joy’s CD, I love the christmas carol, o holy night… she did awesome!!!!
Um the show is not the same without the two main characters of the show. I have been watching the show since the beginning. They really need to bring them back. The show sucks without them.
