Charlize Theron Knows What’s Best for Everyone

Jun 12, 2008 at 5:55pm

“The Thinking Man’s Hollywood Bombshell,” shouts the cover of the July 2008 British GQ, under a sultry photo of South Africa-born actress Charlize Theron.

That assessment may or may not be true, but Theron is definitely one of the most opinionated actresses on the scene today.

In the cover story, tucked between photos of the well-tanned thespian in various states of undress, are some choice insights about fame and the tabloids.

Celebrities who court attention from the gossip rags? “It comes across as this really sad need for approval,” Charlize opines. “I’ve heard people make comments like, ‘You don’t really want to be in the tabloids, but you need to be for your career.’ They believe it’s actually important. It’s not. It’s ugly.

“People say, ‘That’s your job [to encourage tabloid attention],’ ” she adds. “It really isn’t, actually. It’s not my job to go out and make an ass out of myself.”

In case you were wondering, Charlize doesn’t much enjoy reading about other actors’ personal lives in the press, either: “Like, your life belongs to us now? That’s the deal? I didn’t get that memo. It wasn’t sent to me, and I didn’t sign it. So, f*ck you.”

You tell ‘em, Charlize! After all, everyone knows you would never turn to such desperate antics, like posing half-naked for a magazine in order to boost your name recognition.

Oh, wait…
