Chris Brown’s Lawyer Seeks Dismissal in Assault Case
Could Chris Brown be walking away from his legal troubles soon?
Appearing before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg on Wednesday, Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, received a delay in the case—and indicated that he plans to file a motion to dismiss the case because of police leaks, People magazine reports.
Geragos was presumably making reference to a photo showing injuries that Brown’s then-girlfriend, Rihanna, sustained from the alleged assault, which was leaked onto the Internet in February.
Brown has pleaded not guilty to felony counts of assault and making criminal threats, stemming from a February 8 incident during which he allegedly beat “Disturbia” singer Rihanna. It’s believed that the two had gotten into an argument over text messages that Brown had received from another woman.
According to Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Jeffery Rubenstein—who’s not involved in the case—Geragos’ presumed gambit will probably not succeed.
“If Geragos makes an issue of leaked evidence, it’s unlikely the judge will dismiss the case,” Rubenstein opines. “It’s not police conduct at issue here, it’s Chris Brown’s.”
With the new delay, the next hearing in the case is set for May 28.
