Clay Aiken Paid Bargain Basement Prices

on Sep. 26, 2008 10:19 AM / Leave a Comment

MSNBC reports that Clay Aiken made the paltry sum of $500,000 for his People magazine cover shoot with new baby and "coming out" interview.

The term paltry applies because his predecessors (Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie among them) earned $1 million or more for their first photos of baby.

Insiders say Clay's skimpy payout has a lot to do with the economy.

“Gone are the days when any celebrity gets millions of dollars for their photos,” says a magazine editor. “Economically, it doesn’t make sense, and there is only so long that you can keep saying ‘It’s good for the brand.’ ”

If only Clay had impregnated someone and come out a little sooner...

Aiken also reveals in his interview that his son Parker had to undergo surgery shortly after he was born for a condition called pyloric stenosis.

"I was like, wait a second, this is my responsibility, I need to take care of this child, and he can't ask questions for himself. It was a reality check, like this is the real deal," Aiken says.

So the money probably wasn't too crucial at that point. Parker recovered and is "fine, healthy and doing well!" Aiken reports.
