The Country Music Awards: Celebs Kick Up Their Heels
The Country Music Awards were held in Nashville at the Sommett Center Wednesday night, and country's biggest stars were presented trophies by some of Hollywood's brightest lights.
Kenny Chesney won Entertainer of the Year, and accepted the award from comeback queen, Shania Twain. Twain gracefully stepped out in a Missoni dress to a standing ovation. This was her first public appearance since her marriage to Robert "Mutt" Lange imploded in May.
"It's good to see all of you too. I hope to be seeing a lot more of you," Twain said to a delighted crowd.
Chesney, who won the Entertainer award for the for the third year in a row—fourth time overall—was brought to tears.
"This is my fourth time standing up here, and I'm really humbled by it," he said.
Awards co-host and Jessica Simpson enemy Carrie Underwood, in a lovely yellow gown, won Female Vocalist of the Year.
Show producers certainly knew how to pick their hosts this year! Host Brad Paisley won two awards of his own—Male Vocalist and Music Video of the Year for "Waitin' on a Woman."
Taylor Swift, in a sequin and crystal Kaufman Franco gown with Christian Louboutin shoes, presented Lady Antebellum with the Artist of the Year award. She commented, "Last year it was the highlight of my senior year when Carrie Underwood presented me with the Horizon Award."
The CMAs got a boost of Hollywood glamour, as Sunday Rose's mother Nicole Kidman (accompanied by husband Keith Urban) and Reese Witherspoon were on hand to present honors.
"I'm having just the greatest time," Witherspoon, in a black Marchesa gown, said before presenting Brad Paisley with his award.
Sounds like everyone else was, too.
