Dakota Fanning: 'New Moon' Rising

Dakota Fanning's tiny frame is full of excitement over potentially being part of New Moon, the second film in the Twilight franchise.

Fanning, currently promoting her role as a teen clairvoyant in the action-thriller Push, says that it would be "fantastic" if she were cast to play Jane.

Jane is the psychic pain-inflicting child vampire in author Stephanie Meyer's smash hit quartet of novels.

The character Dakota is up for is a member of the Volturi coven who eventually has it in for Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella (Kristen Stewart). If none of these names mean anything to you, either join the 21st century, or ask your little sister or teenage daughter; they'll fill you in.

Fanning's no stranger to serious roles. She just caused controversy with her depiction of an underage rape victim in Hounddog.

"I really hope it [New Moon] works out," Fanning, 14, told People. "It would be a really fantastic experience, I'm sure."

Golden Compass director Chris Weitz, the controversial replacement for departing (some say fired) Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, reportedly offered the young starlet the role without even requiring an audition.

Fanning's a total match for the character who is described as having a "Botticelli angel-like face [and] crimson irises" per the casting notice.

Filming begins in the U.S. and Italy in March. The film is fast-tracked to be in theatres by November. Producers are hoping to capitalize on the momentum of Twilight the first, which made $185 million at the box office here in the U.S.

No, not dakota fanning at all! dakota does not need that part she doesnt look like how you would pitchure jane. plus dakota looks ugly. also she does NOT have the acting skills and shes to young the need some one older they should be more focused on having a good budget for special effects not celiberty casts.
