Dakota Fanning to Star in Wizard of Oz Sequel?
Dakota Fanning might be following the yellow-brick road soon.
British newspaper Express reports that the New Moon actress is being considered for the starring role in an upcoming sequel to The Wizard of Oz, which would be “darker and more action-packed” than the 1939 original.
Producer Basil Iwanyk explains, “It will be set in the present day and feature Dorothy’s granddaughter.”
Adds co-producer Todd McFarlane, “You’ve still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place, but she’s much closer to the Ripley character from Alien [Sigourney Weaver] than a helpless singing girl.”
Filming on the project could begin next year.
Let us know in the comments section: Would Dakota Fanning be a good choice for this project—and who should be cast as the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion?

This was done 2 years ago in ‘Tin Man’ with Zooey Deschanel.
Dakota is a good choice but bad idea for a movie. There are just some movies that should not be touched and Wizard of Oz is not only one but #1 on that list. I know about “Tin Man” and “Wiz” and they are ok but when it comes to movies WOO is sacred.

Amen.
Sorry, but Dakota is a horrible choice. I feel like a remake of the Wizard of Oz would need a fresh face. Somebody we’ve heard little or nothing about.
She would be a perfect choice, and for those who don’t know, the book of The Wizard of Oz does have a sequel (actually there are five books more)
Dakota would be perfect for this role and this is a great idea! Dakota can make this work!
what the hell.. no.
No way……………….Anne Hathaway of course~

There are 6 OZ books by L. Frank Baum that deal with Dorothy and he wrote 13 more books of OZ.
I think she would totally rock any role she took on. If she did this character she would make it work and work good. The kid is talented. I’d like to see them do this the way they are redoing Alice In Wonderland, kinda dark.
‘Return to Oz’ anyone?
I have mixed feelings. The Wizard of Oz is a movie that is classic in its own right…but its not like they are remaking it. This one will be a sequel with new characters…plus I Dakota is a very talented actress, and I know she will do great in anything she does. Plus I like dark and twisted movies, so it might be a good idea to give it a re-vamp.
It’s not like we will forget the classic. That will always remain a fave.

I think so cos she looks like it, but her sister did Pheobe in Wonderland tho.
That quote from Todd McFarlane is from 2 years ago…the reporting on all of this is based on numerous stories. Don’t believe any of it yet!
Dakota Fanning can pull off just about anything. Will Ferrell should be the Tin Man, Kevin Bacon the scarecrow and Jack Black the cowardly loin.
Sorry, I can’t see it. Why do people keep hiring Dakota Fanning for really dark character roles? She needs to be on an adult sitcom or something. She just doesn’t do dark dramatic roles. And The Wizard of Oz? When the end credits came up, it was a bittersweet end to a LEGEND of a movie, you didn’t want it to end, but at the same time you were glad that it was over and Dorothy was safe at home. They disturbed that by hiring a Shirley Temple actress to play Dorothy’s daughter in a sequel that should have been scrapped in the preliminary stages! I’ll still see it in the cinemas when it comes out, but just to see what they have done to one of the greatest movies of all time.
yes dakota would be perfect for the movie

agreed!!
holy crap Dakota grew up. and look at those tata’s. somewhere Regis Philbin just saw this and is up from his chair and running for the bedroom with a box of tissues in one hand and a bottle of lotion in the other. (he is like creepy obsessed with Dakota)
She is a good choice. Dakota is a very talented actress and seems like a swell person as a whole.
Did you know that dakota Fanning began life as a poop stain? its true she is the most devious of poop stains too becasue now she is a movie star! congrdulations Dakota”poop Stain” Fanning
thats all we need; hollywood to ruin another classic by adding violence and sleaze; pathetic; they have no new ideas so they ruin the classics.
Apparently Dakota likes these darker film roles and I for one think she is great in them, though I do not like her playing a vampire, even though I love vampire films. I only want to see Dakota as a heroine.
this was done two years ago. which was TIN MAN then?
i feel that a fresh face would work better for this movie. i would have auditions in LA or something.
