The deceased Heath Ledger's family attended the New York City premiere of The Dark Night last night.

Kim Ledger, recently rumored to be in financial dispute over Heath's estate with Michelle Williams, attended with Heath's stepmother, Ines. Kim was sighted giving a thumbs-up when he left the theatre.

Heath portrays the psychotic Joker in what many are terming an Oscar-worthy performance.

Heath's mother, Sally Bell, and older sister Kate also attended.

Batman incarnate, Christian Bale, praised his co-star: "He steals the movie, and I'm quite happy to say that. He's created a joker that will become a classic portrayal of the ages."

Bale's obviously a stand-up guy. Most other actors would be stoic about the spotlight high-jacking and cursing Heath's name under their breath.

“Heath Ledger's family turned up at the New York premiere of The Dark Knight last evening. Heath's father Kim, his wife Sally and Heath's sister Kate and her husband Nate chose not to walk the red carpet but where dressed to the nines as they tastefully went in through a side entrance to watch the movie. The Ledger family did not stop to give interviews afterwards however Kim gave a big thumbs saying the film was "very good."
The Dark Knight opens up this Friday and there is already talk of Heath being posthumous nominated for an Academy Award for his role of the Joker.”

75-year-old legend and co-star Michael Caine recently commented about his thoughts on who the best Batman actor of all-time, saying, “I think Christian is the best actor ever to play Batman. He’s also very lucky. He’s got the best writer and director ever for Batman, Christopher Nolan. That’s why I agreed to do it. I’d seen Memento and Insomnia so was a big fan of Christopher. Then I read Batman Begins and thought the script was brilliant.”

I think it is admirable of Bale to shun the temptation to make what happened to Ledger into a soundbite just to promote a film which will rake in a fortune anyway. It makes me think of the film "Batman & Robin"... the tragic death of the whole cast of that film could not have saved that turkey. Some say that the careers of Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone and Arnold Schwarzenegger were all killed by that movie, may they rest in eternal peace.”
