Demi Lovato's Father Refuses to Be Silenced!

Demi Lovato's biological father is intent on having his say over his daughter's recent breakdown.

Patrick Lovato, who's been largely estranged from his Disney princess spawn since  his divorce from mother Dianna in 1994, has once again chimed in about the 18-year-old's troubles, despite implied warnings from Disney's lawyers telling him to back off.

Earlier this week, the elder Lovato came out of the woodwork to opine that Demi's recent admission to a rehab facility is the fault of the show-biz industry and the "pressures" that it put on young people. Shortly thereafter, Demi's attorney offered a thinly veiled statement noting,

"No one speaks for Demi except for her designated representatives. Unfortunately, several people have taken it upon themselves to speak out -- both on and off the record -- about a situation they know nothing about."

This hasn't sat too well with Patrick, who now intimates to Radar Online that his First Amendment rights are being threatened by such admonishments:

"This is the United States of America, I can talk anytime I want to."

Papa Lovato seems to have backed off of his seeming "blame Disney" stance a bit, however:

"I'm proud that she's working for Disney,  I'm just concerned about the industry, not them [Disney] specifically because they have taken care of Demi. Shoot, they give her bodyguards...It's the whole industry... the pressures and the time element that you have to put forward...It's those types of things that go along with what you chose and you can't blame Disney for that."

As for his estranged relationship with his daughter, Patrick admits,

"In the last couple of years I've been out of the loop, that's for sure...That's not only their choice but it was my choice too... as I never wanted to interfere with her career...I never wanted to stand in their way because we've been away from each other from quite some time, so I didn't want them to think that now that she's a star, I wanted to get back into her life."

How very gracious of him. Do you think that Patrick needs to take a vow of silence on Demi's woes, or does he have every right to publicly speak about his daughter? Let us know in the comments section.

So you didn't want people to think you wanted to come back into her life just because she was famous, so instead you waited for her to go into a treatment facility and EVERYONE's dying for a statement from someone close to her? Shocking. He didn't even know she was bullied in school, and that's why she began homeschooling and probably was the root of this problem too. He could have at least taken the time to check out the tabloids that he's apparently so familiar with and learn a little something about his own daughter. Ridiculous.

This dude really needs to stop speaking to the media about Demi when he hasn't been in her life for quite sometime now so why is he talking when he doesn't know anything about what happened? Doesn't he stop to think that by him talking to the media it just might be stressing Demi out a lot more? Also, he says he doesn't want people to think that he's only in Demi's life now because she's a star but by talking to the media people are going to think that and if he doesn't want people to think that than he needs to stop talking about Demi's life which he knows nothing about!!

i honestly think he's trying to be a good dad. this isn't him trying to "get attention". this is him trying to reach out to people and warn them this is what the industry does to people! honestly, no need to judge him.

ii thinkkkk that its really nice that Patrick wants to defend his daughter but considering the situation and how all of this was caused by too much pressure on demi, that he should just let it go and not to sound rude but stay out of it...we dont want anymore stress on Her.

That's stupid he really hasn't been in her life, and now he wants to speak out on her "behalf", I think he might have been watching/listening a little too much to Michael Lohan, I love how he blames fame when he doesn't even want a relationship with his own daughter, maybe that's another factor in her emotional issues.
