As the product of a show-biz family, Drew Barrymore had an unusual upbringing. And that's caused some difficulty that she's still trying to work through.
The 34-year-old actress, whose roller-derby movie Whip It, hits the big screen on October 2, tells InStyle magazine in its October issue that she's still trying to resolve her complicated relationship with her mother Jaid.
Says Barrymore,
"I am okay with my dad [actor John Barrymore], but my mom and I have yet to work it out. I don't talk about it because … how do you talk about something you're confused about?"
There is, however, an upside to Drew's mixed familial emotions. For instance, she's able to channel her frustration into her roles, such as her portrayal of "Little" Edie Bouvier Beale in the recent Emmy-winning adaptation of Grey Gardens. And another upcoming project, which involves "another potential family that I'll take on."
Don't feel too bad, Drew; no matter how difficult your family life has been, it could have been worse. A lot worse.
