Drew Barrymore and Jason Segel: Singing Sweethearts?
Has Drew Barrymore added another notch to her thoroughly whittled bedpost?
Us Magazine reports that the 33-year-old actress has been on a canoodling frenzy with How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel, 28.
The couple was first spotted swapping spit on November 28 at West Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont, and took in a cabaret show at Los Angeles night spot The Dresden Room on December 20. On Saturday, the pair took a major leap forward in their relationship: singing karaoke together in public.
Spectators report that Barrymore and Segel dropped in at Caffe Brass Monkey in Los Angeles to belt out a rendition of “Rainbow Connection,” from 1979′s The Muppet Movie—which is appropriate. Segel, who played a frustrated puppet master in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, has been tapped to co-write the script for the next big-screen Muppet offering.
“Drew and Jason were obviously dating because they were kissing and touching each other throughout the night,” one witness reports.
Other sources, however, differ on the status of the two actors’ relationship. “They’re just friends,” counters Elayne Roberts, a club performer who sat with the couple at the Brass Monkey. Another insider characterizes Barrymore and Segel as “friends with a little benefits” and “not serious” about each other, while Segel’s rep claims, “They are friends, simply.”
The oft-dated Barrymore’s last serious relationship was with 30-year-old actor/Mac shill Justin Long, whom she broke up with in July. Since then, she’s been keeping herself occupied in various ways. Whether her “friendship” with Segel develops into something more enduring will probably depend on how well he handles the Iron Maiden catalog on their next karaoke date.
