Emma Watson Disses Twilight for ‘Selling Sex’
Hopefully Emma Watson has a magic spell in her arsenal to ward off enraged Twi-hards.
Watson—who plays Hermione Granger in the hugely successful Harry Potter movie series—recently lambasted the vampire-centric Twilight movie series for concentrating too much on sex.
Discussing her smooching scene with Ron Weasley (as portrayed by Rupert Grint) in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Watson opined,
“This kiss between Hermione and Ron is highly anticipated, it’s been building up for eight films now. And Harry Potter is not Twilight, you know; we’re not selling sex. So, whenever there is any hint of that, everybody gets terribly excited. In fact, it was horribly awkward; we couldn’t stop laughing.”
If that’s the case, Watson might want to skip the upcoming Twilight installment Breaking Dawn, because word is it’ll be the sexiest Twilight flick to date.
Does Watson have a point? Is the Twilight series too focused on sex, or is she just jealous because she doesn’t get to film a makeout scene with Robert Pattinson? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

however offensive she may be towards twi-hards, she’s right. the entire saga is built on the sexual relationship of edward & bella. their entire relationship drips of unrequited sexual tension. sexual tension, first kiss, sexual tension, first bite, sexual tension, last bite, sexual tension, first time, first baby, etc

Seriously True
Emma Watson is just really bitter than Stew gets to make out with RPattz and she’s stuck locking lips with a hideous looking Ginger troll with no soul.

In my opinion she can be glad she doesn’t have to make out with that ogly guy and she is totally right about everything she said!!
Emma is so right and I love that she said that because it’s true and everyone who thinks different is in denial, and Twilight is selling sex, unfortunatly they are also trying to seel sex combined with what they call love but it’s more like sex and obsession, unhelthy and the whole Twilight thing is unrealistic. Besides, Rupert and Ron are both hot + they have something called a personality that Edward lacks and Rob hardly ever shows, and also, Emma knows Rob and have worked with him on HP before Twilight even existed and Rob even said himself that he at the time did what he could to impress her but didn’t succeed so I would say that she isn’t jealous.

me too!! i LOVE the twilight series, but i also love the fact that she doesn’t hesitate to speak plainly about it.
she has no reason to hate on twilight since she’s worked with pattinson and hp has been wildly successful as well. she just called a spade a spade and if that offends some, too bad. open your eyes–the sex is all over it.
ooooooooo please….emma watson is just jealous!!..I think Twilight portrays the real stages that a person has to go through when he or she is in love for real.. such as doubt on whether he or she chose the right person, trust and patience too!! In fact I think the guys should take example from twilight..maybe one day they will learn how to treat a woman with respect!!
“treat a woman with respect”… by obsessing over her, stalking her, only allowing her closely allotted time with her friends, and pressuring her to get an abortion.
Nice.
Yeah Shes kinda right but SO WHAT Its A Freaking Pg13 movie……its so much pg13 movies thats all about sex….and for her to say its ALL About sex then you don’t get the movie in its entirely and don’t understand the true point!! Now you cant even say True Blood is all about sex because its not either it has ALOT of it though…..but no so she KINDA right but then again it seems she have some type of a lil jealousy IDK maybe not……Twilight is an Action Romance what are you EXPECTING

if you realy believe that you must be either a 6 year old or tatally dumb!! why the hell should she be jealous!? harry potter is soo much more successful than twilight !! and twilight is soo unrealistic!! no guy in this world is like edward!! he is just the pipe dream of girls, but if you watch twilight you can see that he has no personality!!! he only does the things she wants and what is good for her!! he never thinks of himself and that is not only unrealistic it’s also very stupit!!

first of all i am neither dumb nor 6…i am a normal 22 year old that thanks to twilight i got to rebuild my hopes in love…i am aware that the way the story portrays it is unrealistic but watching a bunch of kids doing magic and flying with brooms is much more unrelaistic!!!..and the fact that edward does anything bella wants shows how sometimes a person acts to see his or her partner happy…in this way i see twilight close to reality sometimes!..it makes one think on his/her everyday actions i think!
Twilight is not selling sex. Twilight is about true love. Edward and Bella do have a sexual chemistry but they are old enough to have sex. And when you find your true love, you usually wanna have sex with them someday. it would be really fake if they didn’t make love. But I have to say that there is a lot of sex in the fourth book. Maybe too much, because there are 5 years old girls who love twilight. Tbh they love it just because it’s popular but whatever.

I don’t see anything wrong with that. The story is, after all, about teenagers – or a teenager – who’s experiencing such an intense love for the first time. It’s one of the real aspects of the story, and it fits, and adds another dimension to the story, one that is relevant and very well written. It’s also not such a blunt subject, and the way it’s described is very subtle and romantic. One of the two lead characters is quite conservative in case you forgot, and I think that’s a nice touch that makes the sexual tension and innuendos less threatening to the innocent reader.

i don’t know who you are but very good point..lol..cos after all it is all about what teenagers experience while growing up and begin to expeience the feeling of love for other persons rather than their relatives.

exactly you want non realistic thats what hp is fantasy. close to reality sometimes Robsten = real they are together in real life. Edward is the ideal man but both feel they are not worthy of other. Is a such a gentleman for his bella.
Why did pop culture have to turn vampires into such sexual creatures? They never really were, and now, they’re apparently sexy and insatiable lovers. Emma’s usually very articulate and well-spoken, but her quote just comes off as bitter. I fully agree with her though.
sure she is jealous u don’t need to say that

First of all, I’m sorry if i offend you, but i really don’t see it like you. For me twilight isn’t about love, because i can’t really see how they fall in love!! i read the books and i never read how bella discribed edwards personality!! all she said about him is how hot and handsome he is!! and in my opinion they both don’t have a real personality because they have no hobbies, no option on music or books or movies etc.
I can’t see how they possibly could be in love when the both don’t have a personality!!
AND I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF THAT!!!!!!!!
as robert pattinson once said if anything twilight promotes abstinace. we don’t we don’t get the detailed stuff until the last book if you read. this was done tastefully we get the idea of what goes on with out it being to detailed or graphic. we don’t need that. compared to other stuff out there twilight is tame. would expect this sort of comment above from some one a tad bit jealous perhaps and perhaps because in truth and sorry to say this its true but many could give a crap about hp. not knocking it its wonderful but just different from twilight. lacks that sort of appeal that twilight brings. Twilight was just that awesome and special. due in part to the cast they made it awesome. Another element that has us so freaked out the real life love affair with Kristen and Robert ROBSTEN we have a real life edward and bella in a sense. so maybe that makes twilight more realistic for some fans. Thats whats got us freaked out and hooked. she does sound jealous why would u say such a thing whats so scary and graphic or gross about twilight please.
Why did pop culture have to turn vampires into such sexual creatures? They never really were, and now, they’re apparently sexy and insatiable lovers. Emma’s usually very articulate and well-spoken, but her quote just comes off as bitter. I fully agree with her though.
There is no love in Twilight – only mutual sexual obsession. People who are in love have conversations. Bella and Edward do not. People who are in love have mutual interests besides sex. Bella and Edward do not. Edward doesn’t do “anything” for Bella. He does what he thinks he should do, even if she doesn’t want him to. They don’t know each other at all… probably because both of them were intended to be completely blank tabula rasas for the audience to project onto.
But yes. Twilight is blatant emotional pornography, which is why it sells. If it wasn’t dripping sex on every page, yet somehow still managing to market itself as wholesome true love, it would never have gotten popular. Also, Edward would be the worst boyfriend ever. Guys who actually act like Edward do end up locking their girlfriends up, lest another man lay eyes on her.

if you like twilight better i can’t really argue with that, but it is NOT true that people don’t care about hp!! i mean both the books and the movies are MUCH more successful!! i think that showes that people care about hp more than about twilight!!
LOL!!!!! I’m laughing at the comments that the Twihards are posting! HER QUOTE WAS TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT! She wasn’t bashing Twilight. She was saying that HP isn’t known for their intimate moments, unlike Twilight, so when there is any hint of that in the HP films, people get excited! I hate it when websites and blogs take peoples quotes out of context to try to get hits to their sites!
Emma was telling the truth, even Twilight fans acknowledge it. But what gets me is why you have to bash HP just because of what she said. She was just emphasizing how much people are looking forward to the Ron/Hermione kiss, just like I’m sure most Twilight fans were anxious to see Eclipse because of Edward/Bella sexy time.
And @Gel, you’d be surprised about how many people “give a crap” about HP, as you so nicely put it!
But who cares about hp we really could give a crap. Its good yes but thats it. see it once you seen it all.
Yeah, who DOES care? I mean, certainly not any of the people who propelled 5 out of 6 HP movies so far into the top 20 highest-grossing films of all time (Prisoner of Azkaban is #27) while the highest-grossing Twilight film is New Moon and is #40 on the list. Or the professors who have put HP books on young adult literature reading lists, or any of the people who have been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, or Stephen King who has openly praised JK Rowling numerous times (his hand-written review of HP & the Order of the Phoenix is brilliant) while expressly stating that “Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a damn,” or any of the millions of kids who feel like they’ve grown up with HP characters (actually that part makes me feel bad for Twilight fans. I see how rabid the fanbase is, and you’re getting shortchanged by having the whole series basically done and over with in like 6 years. Between the first HP book being published and the last movie coming out, it will have been like 15(?) years. We got to grow up with them, you didn’t.)
I could go on and on but objectively proving why Harry Potter is more popular (and subjectively why it is better) is a fruitless endeavour.
Well i read twilight alot and i have watched true blood and sex and the city so u r saying tht if twilight has alot of sex then wht do u say abt true blood come on it doesnt even go on abt sex in everybook n if u had harry potter and twilight actors come out more ppl will scream twilight thn Hp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I couldn’t have found a better representation of comparisons between a VERY SUCCESSFUL movie such as Harry Potter, and a movie that has damaged the name of vampires everywhere displayed with the worst acting talent I’ve ever had to sit through,
And no, I don’t think she’s jelouse that she doesn’t get to kiss someone like that because she actually is someone famous out there in Hollywood. Thank you.
OMG… Twihards posts and their “reasoning” proves just who actually are fans, the teens!
@lovetwilight, first off learn to use complete words and secondly, there has never been an event where the lead actors from HP and Twilight have been together so you don’t know how the crowd would react!
ell i read twilight alot and i have watched true blood and sex and the city so u r saying tht if twilight has alot of sex then wht do u say abt true blood come on it doesnt even go on abt sex in everybook n if u had harry potter and twilight actors come out more ppl will scream twilight thn Hp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1) SATC and True Blood are geared towards adults, Twilight is for teenagers.
2) Rabid popularity/clinically insane fandom is not a mark of superiority, or arguably, even a good thing. Do you people even listen when RPattz does interviews or are you too busy screaming? He clearly hates his life and everyone who screams at him, he’s talked sh*t about SMeyer and Twilight so many times (and I sort of love him for it). KStew also obviously hates it all too. That said though, HP has gotten some legit crazies. Daniel Radcliffe got flashed on the streets of New York by some random middle-aged woman.
The movies may have ..you think that its all about sex but you have to read the books first before you judge … i agree with emma 50%….its just the movies that focus more on sex……thats what will sell so that what they foscus on.. the books however dont..
Oh yes, they are. I’ve read all four of them and they promote sex in a horrible way: as if it were a temptation you mustn’t fall into until you are married. Meyer is a mormon and that comes across. Go figure, a religious half-wit writing horrible religious propaganda. Ugh, Twilight is disgusting.
Don’t even get me started on the impact HP has had in comparison to Twilight……..
oh and robert and kristen ARE NOT EDWARD AND BELLA SOOO STOP!!!

You probably should agree 100% then, because she’s obviously only talking about the movies. She only talks about the building romance between Hermione and Ron (which is legit, well-developed, and not based around the fact that Ron is ~gorgeous) in the FILMS, and then mentions Twilight. She’s not talking about books. She’s an actress, she talks about movies.

okayy then i agree 100% :)
@lessthanthree, I think I love you because you have said everything that I have been trying to say… lol!
@Felicia, Emma’s quote was misinterpretated. It’s from the Empire magazine article and it was completely taken out of context! You have to read the article and then you’ll see that she was in no way bashing Twilight. But I fully agree with you when you say keep it classy! 100%
Twilight does have its own dose of sexual tension. Of course it does, it’s a saga based on teenagers falling in love! But to offset the sexual tension, Twilight does promote abstinance. I think it is a perfect balance. Stephanie Meyer wrote out the perfect way to set up this kind of relationship. I do think that Emma did sound bitter in the way that she spoke of Twilight. It could’ve just been just a misinterpretation of what she meant; no one knows. Harry Potter and the Twilight Saga are both very successful movie and book franchises, so lets keep it classy.
“unrequited sexual tension, first kiss, sexual tension, first bite, sexual tension, last bite, sexual tension, first time, first baby, etc” itsnt that how relationships go? lol
sh isn’t jealous, she’s actually telling the truth. the whole series is based off of sexual tension. but that’s probably one of the main reasons teenagers love the film.

i am aware of hps popularity have nothing against it. many love it just as much. i’ve seen the movies they just don’t appeal to me is all. they are kind of too long you seen the first one maybe the second the nexts ones are the same fantasy journey each year hes in school. looks like what she said was taken out of context and if it was not her claim is twilight promotes sex unlike hp that’s why people are so caught up in twilight sex sells right thats all its good for. not true it was the cast the characters the story we cared about. they are household names in the world we actually know of the characters from the stories and movies and we do care. Thats why they are popular not the sex. And anyway we don’t get that stuff in detail is the point. go watch true blood if you wanna claim that. and have u seen the material out there in movies tv whats out there today exploited so much? what else so to say these books and movies are just as bad just good for just sex look again. lets just say twilight has an appeal that hp does not just as hp has the a sort of appeal twilight does not. case in point the two are different both good and bad in different ways.
I’m a fan of both series, but it was insulting when you said no one gives a crap about HP because it isn’t true. I don’t watch True Blood so I’m not going to compare it.Emma was talking about how excited everyone is for the Ron/Hermione kiss since it is rare that you see intimate moments in HP and she was just stating that it’s normal to see it in Twilight. I don’t see the insult. Plus, her quote kinda insinuates that there will be a little sexy time in HP, when she said that they “hint” at it. Ron/Hermione kiss, Harry/Hermione make-out topless scene (when Ron destroys a horcrux, Ron’s illusion), Harry/Ginny, ect. She was in no way insulting Twilight. But of course, fans and websites want to start drama and make more of it than what it actually is!!!
Perhaps maybe they were but her quote comes off snooty like we are not about that we are not selling sex in other words thats what twilight was about we don’t do that. in fact its akward the kiss is akward. thats what was quoted and read above you can read between the lines u can pretty much tell what she meant if not it would not have come out that way.
sh isn’t jealous, she’s actually telling the truth. the whole series is based off of sexual tension. but that’s probably one of the main reasons teenagers love the film.
I don’t think so it was the story the characters. Are they all about sex? Does any of that stuff happen at all with any the students the characters in the book and movie? no When she wants it to happen he prevents it proving the promotion of abstinance. Why is it prevented? He wants to do it right and be married first. Just being the perfect gentlemen so what sex are u speaking about? They are married when it happens as u should be. Even when it happens you know what they’re doing with out the graphic detail. thats they point. Twilight was just that awesome that special and we do care. thats why we care is all. it was the story the characters that made the difference got many reading again.
i am aware of hps popularity have nothing against it. many love it just as much. i’ve seen the movies they just don’t appeal to me is all. they are kind of too long you seen the first one maybe the second the nexts ones are the same fantasy journey each year hes in school. looks like what she said was taken out of context and if it was not her claim is twilight promotes sex unlike hp that’s why people are so caught up in twilight sex sells right thats all its good for. not true it was the cast the characters the story we cared about. they are household names in the world we actually know of the characters from the stories and movies and we do care. @Gloria, HP got people reading again! You should have seen the few people that were reading until HP came along. Even Stephenie Meyer acknowledges that fact. She even stated that the Harry Potter phenomenon will never happen again.
@Gloria, HP got people reading again! You should have seen the few people that were reading until HP came along. Even Stephenie Meyer acknowledges that fact. She even stated that the Harry Potter phenomenon will never happen again.
i’ve got the books too
@Gel: if you think the formula of every Harry Potter movie is the same, it’s clear you didn’t get past at the very most the third one. Probably the second, since even the third one starts to vary – the main villain isn’t even Voldemort!
@Gloria: You’re right, Twilight has a very strong abstinence message. I’ll give it credit for that especially if it’s at least getting teenage girls to think about waiting longer to have sex. But then it flips it around in Breaking Dawn and they get married when Bella is all of 18 so they can have sex. Which is a seedy side of the abstinence-only movement I disagree with.
why mention twilight if the question wasnt even about it !!
it actuallly shows that harry potter people r just jealous of how famous twilight is now and that alot of people actualllly forgot about harry potter and now more into twilight and twilight guys !!!
she might be true twilight is sometimes like that but cmon dont be such a jealous idiot !!
i still think twilight is sooo much more interesting than harry potter
