Fox Sports Apologizes for Jessica Simpson Weight Jokes

Fox Sports went heavy into apology mode on Wednesday.

Us Magazine reports that Fox has issued a mea culpa for a cartoon skit—sponsored by Burger King—on this week’s Fox NFL Sunday that cracked wise about Jessica Simpson‘s weight.

According to a statement issued by Fox,

“Burger King Corp. did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp. approved it before it aired. Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended.”

In the skit, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo‘s teammates and coach make several jokes about his former girlfriend’s weight fluctuations.

The cartoon clip apparently didn’t go unnoticed by Simpson herself, who tweeted rather pointedly on Wednesday,

“I will never understand why people attack for a laugh. Own your beauty and don’t listen to the judgement [sic].”

Let us know in the comments section: Does this settle the matter, or should Fox apologize to Simpson personally?
