Ben Affleck Accused of Groping ‘TRL’ Host Amid Harvey Weinstein Scandal
Hilarie Burton claimed she "was a kid" when she was allegedly assaulted by the actor.
Sexual Assault Allegations
Just days after Harvey Weinstein was fired from his job over numerous allegations detailing decades of sexual harassment and abuse from the producer, his protégé Ben Affleck is being called out for his own inappropriate behavior against women.
Hilarie Burton, who worked on MTV’s TRL in 2003, spoke out this week about an alleged incident in which the 45-year-old actor groped her breast during an on-camera interview. The accusation came after the Oscar winner released his own statement condemning his longtime friend’s actions.
When a fan tweeted that Ben should have “kept quiet” with his response about the movie mogul, a second commenter recalled that he “grabbed Hilarie Burton’s breasts on TRL once.”
The One Tree Hill alum broke her silence about the alleged assault. “I didn’t forget,” she tweeted.
“He Tweaked My Left Boob!”
The Twitter user replied, “I’m so sorry that happened to you. It’s infuriating that people never bring up all the gross, predatory things he’s done.”
Though Hilarie — who is currently pregnant and expecting a child with The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan — didn’t specify exactly what Ben did to her years ago, she did share a video of outtakes from TRL in which she appeared to address the alleged incident.
“He comes over and tweaks my left boob,” she said in old footage. In a separate scene, Ben asked her, “How old are you — 19?”
“Girls. I’m so impressed with you brave ones. I had to laugh back then so I wouldn’t cry. Sending love.”
A History of Misconduct
The alarming video was unearthed after Rose McGowan, one of the many women Harvey had allegedly sexually harassed in the past, accused Ben of enabling his mentor’s behavior by keeping quiet about the exec’s misconducts. In a tweet addressed to the actor and his brother Casey Affleck, who was sued for sexual harassment in 2010, she called the famous siblings out for staying silent amid the allegations.
Ben later wrote on Twitter that he was “saddened and angry” about how a man he worked with “used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass and manipulate many women over decades.” He continued:
“This is completely unacceptable, and I find myself asking what I can do to make sure this doesn’t happen to others. We need to do better at protecting our sisters, friends, co-workers and daughters. We must support those who come forward, condemn this type of behavior when we see it and help ensure there are more women in positions of power.”
However, following the statement’s release, Rose claimed Ben knew about his colleague’s inappropriate behavior. “Ben Affleck f**k off,” she tweeted. “@benaffleck ‘GODDAMNIT! I TOLD HIM TO STOP DOING THAT’ you said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault. You lie.”
