“He’s Got a Gun?” Britney Spears Panics as Crazed Fan Crashes Her Concert
Piece of Me
Having been in the spotlight since she was a teenager, Britney Spears has amassed a legion of fans over the years. Though some are dedicated followers, other have gotten in trouble with the law for exhibiting questionable — and sometimes illegal — behavior towards their idol.
When the “Slumber Party” singer announced she would be performing at a Las Vegas residency as a way to connect to fans and celebrate her illustrious career, people from all over the world flocked to Sin City to watch her perform. The 35-year-old’s show, Britney: Piece of Me, grossed over $100 million in ticket sales.
It seems everybody wants a piece of Britney, but some people are doing it the wrong way…
After taking a summer vacation to be with her kids, the mom-of-two returned to Las Vegas to perform at the AXIS auditorium inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Wednesday, August 9th. Following her performance of “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” a fan crashed the concert and rushed the stage, breaking through security in order to get Britney’s attention.
“Are you guys having fun?” the songstress asked the crowd, unaware of the intruder’s presence. The pop princess only noticed the commotion behind her when her backup dancers tried to block the man — who had performed a cartwheel and kicked a guard in the process — as security rushed into the theater to intervene.
“Is something OK?” she panicked. “What’s going on?”
After speaking with her bodyguard, Britney’s knees buckled when she learned the man had been carrying a gun. In video footage shot by audience members, the “Make Me…” chanteuse’s microphone was quickly cut off as she was escorted off the stage.
Some fans in the crowd chanted support for the singer, while others called the detained man an “asshole” for ruining the show.
A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department later told E! News that a 37-year-old named Jesse Webb was arrested that night on charges of trespassing. “Webb was asked to leave the concert by security prior to him jumping on stage and dancing,” Las Vegas officer Larry Hadfield said. “Webb was transported to the Clark County Detention Center. There is no further information regarding this arrest.”
It’s unclear if the rumors of a gun were true.
