Trading Insults and Blows? Christina Aguilera Tried to Punch Pink!
Hey sista, go sista, soul sista, go sista...
It started back with the unforgettable 2001 hit, “Lady Marmalade,” for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack. The divalicious track featured both stars alongside Lil’ Kim and Mya.
In VH1’s Behind the Music, Pink recalled saying to the label’s executive:
“Ron Fair walked in. He didn’t say hi to any of us and said, ‘What’s the high part? What’s the most singing part? Christina’s going to take that part.’ And I stood up, and I said ‘Hi. How are you? So nice of you to introduce yourself. I’m Pink. She will not be taking that part. I think that’s what the fucking meeting’s about.’ I just became the a**hole, and it was a role that I figured that I was gonna play a lot in this industry.”
The same year, Pink reinvented herself to be a more rock-pop act than ever before. She met up with acclaimed producer Linda Perry and they worked out her public transformation. Still, Pink was a little jealous. “I took it really personally when she started working with other artists, particularly artists I didn’t like,” she said. “I don’t think imitation is the highest form of flattery. I think it’s annoying.”
Apparently Pink wanted the song “Beautiful,” but it was given to Christina Aguilera instead.
In 2010, both women phoned into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show and went head-to-head! You can listen to a clip here, where Pink comes off a little testy.
The feud continued into the following year. Pink tweeted the above insult after Xtina was arrested for public intoxication.
During her recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked if their beef ever got physical. “Actually, she swung on me in a club, which is hilarious,” Pink said. “I was like, ‘What’s happening right now?'”
The end or the beginning?
This past August, Pink tweeted out: “Want to point out an awful new phenomenon of the last 10 years. We can no longer be happy for each other.” She followed up: “I ❤ Xtina, we’ve made amends…. Music brings us all together. The best part of music is — there’s room for everyone to win at the same time. Don’t be what’s wrong w/da world.” And finally, “Let’s be an example of inclusion and celebration. You don’t have to like me at all, I’m OK with that. Just be a decent person.”
Upon reflection, Pink said about her and Christina Aguilera:
“At the time, we were super young and super new at the whole thing. I think I’m an alpha and she’s an alpha. I’m used to taking my altercations physical and she’s used to having them verbal. We were just very different. Women have to learn how to support each other.”
She also mentioned on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that she and Christina “may or may not have already collaborated” again!
