At It Again! Duggar Star Says Gender Fluidity Is Child Abuse
Derick's at it again!
Derick Dillard has frequently attacked the trans community on Twitter. He has claimed that “[being] transgender is a myth” and that his fellow TLC reality star Jazz Jennings is being taken advantage of and exploited for a liberal agenda. Though his fans have said that he should promote love for all people like his Christian faith tells him to, he believes that he’s helping the world by spreading his controversial views.
Musician and activist Laura Jane Grace came out as trans in 2012. She uses her experience transitioning at a later stage in life to teach others about gender norms and how to look beyond them.
Laura recently appeared at the Brooklyn Public Library’s event called “Genderful!” which is designed to teach kids about gender and how it is more than just “boy” and “girl.” The event was put together by the gender awareness non-profit If You Want It.
The event was an all-around success by most accounts. It gave children the opportunity to ask questions about gender without receiving hateful or cruel comments back, and it gave parents the tools to explain to their children that they can be whoever they want to be.
“To be in an inclusive space like this is very powerful and important. It’s my six-year-old who’s transgender. I just noticed over the course of time between two-and-a-half years and five years old he became very withdrawn and anxious and depressed,” one mom said about the event.
In the video, Laura explained that she thinks that children aren’t very concerned about gender anyway. It’s just adults who force unnecessary roles upon them that may not be right for them. She explained:
“It’s just something that’s not as part of your daily existence or your interaction with your friends, and if you withdraw them from certain like, gender coding situations, kids are just kids when it comes down to it.”
This was a huge problem for Derick.
When Derick Dillard saw the video of Laura teaching children about gender fluidity, he lambasted it as abuse.
“A friend shared this and called it out for what it is, child abuse. How unfortunate what children are subjected to in the name of progressive understanding,” he wrote alongside the video in a social media post.
Uncharacteristically, Derick removed the incendiary post at some point for an unknown reason.
TLC has already said that they won’t allow Derick to be filmed in upcoming episodes of Counting On thanks to his bigotry. The Duggar family show hasn’t been renewed for another season just yet anyway though they may choose to focus on the younger Duggar sisters who have gotten married and had children earlier this year — like Jinger and Joy-Anna — and take a step away from Jill and her family unit.
Derick’s target will certainly be getting another season however. Jazz Jennings was recently granted a renewal for I Am Jazz.
