Kim Kardashian Slammed for Racy ‘Vogue India’ Photo Shoot
Kim can't catch a break!
Kim Kardashian can’t seem to catch a break — ever. Sometimes, we feel like she should have seen it coming, you know, like when she posts NSFW images on Instagram and people call foul. That said, we’re pretty sure she didn’t foresee the backlash she’d get for agreeing to appear on two separate covers for Vogue India. This time around, fans are attacking essentially every facet of the spread, criticizing the wardrobe, her bare skin, and the choice to put her on the cover at all!
While Vogue tried to play it off like fans were thrilled with the spread — which is admittedly a stunning set of photographs of the E! Star — the truth on Instagram was a little bit different. Indian women and men alike criticized the choice to feature Kim on the cover, saying that the powers that be should have chosen a star of Indian descent to be featured on the publication instead. Or, at least, a star that Indians care about more.
Once Vogue finally opened up the comments on their Instagram, scathing comments from people all over India poured in, slamming the decision to do a cover story on the beloved, yet mostly American, star.
“Such a terribly disappointing choice,” wrote user @sgummadi83. “She has zero in common with our experiences. I would have taken [Lupita Nyong’o] or [Danai Gurira] all day everyday. Try being different, novel idea.”
“There are misconceptions and stereotypes about Indians and third world countries. We are portrayed quite negatively. So why should Indians have Kim as a representation, even if its on a fashion magazine???” @symrakhaleel commented. “There are other influential, powerful, respected women [from India] that could easily take her spot.”
In fairness, though, a few people defended the choice. User @mari_rose88 pointed out that “they have indian models on 10 out of 12 covers,” implying that the choice to use Kim was a just one example of what the magazine does.
