The Duels, Part II
It’s part two of the Duels and the battles are getting more intense! With eight more stunt-filled performances, four teams said goodbye to the show last night. The most intense battle of all was between French natives Les Twins and solo tap dancer Kyle Van Newkirk.
An unexpected twist sends the crowd and judges into a frenzy. Keep reading to find out what happened.
The Line Up
For part two of ‘The Duels’, the teams really pushed themselves by choosing competitors with different dance styles. The battles were set up as follows:
Diana Pombo VS. The Posse – Junior Division
Super Crew VS. Royal Flux – Team Division
The Lab VS. The Boys of Temecula – Junior Division
Les Twins VS. Kyle Van Newkirk – Upper Division
Diana takes the win over The Posse, 91.3 to 86. Royal Flux couldn’t keep up with the athleticism of Super Crew, and lost 86.3 to 89. The Lab, who came prepared to fight in their boxing themed routine, beat The Boys of Temecula 89.7 to 84.7.
The winners will join Fik-Shun, Swing Latino, Eva Igo, and Keone & Mari in the next round, ‘The Cut’. But the best battle of the night goes to…
Tap vs. Hip-Hop
French brothers Les Twins chose soloist Kyle Van Newkirk for their battle. Respecting his heart and passion for dance, the duo felt he was the worthiest opponent.
The hip-hop pair performed a fast-paced, very intricate routine that stunned the crowd. Ending with one brother snapping the neck of the other, they “showed everybody how the duels should be,” per JLo. Derek thought the duo were a little overly confident, however. Are they? The solo tap dancer also performed a hip-hop routine and added a pole for emphasis. But even with perfect precision, it wasn’t enough to win.
Les Twins beat Kyle with the highest score of the night, 92 to 86. Keep reading to see their million-dollar worthy performance.
