Taylor Swift Claps Back at Body-Shaming Criticism After “Ready for It?” Video Release
Look what you made her do
“Are You Ready?”
One bodysuit. Hundreds of complaints. That was the case with Taylor Swift when she released her “…Are You Ready?” music video.
The singer was hit with tons of backlash from critics when she appeared in the futuristic visuals wearing nothing but a nude bodysuit. Though some loyal fans defended the risky fashion choice, other conservative ones lashed out at the 27-year-old for looking like she was naked in her flesh-colored cyborg costume.
It certainly didn’t help that Taylor was rocking the skintight number while cooing sexually suggestive lyrics like: “In the middle of the night, in my dreams / You should see the things we do, baby.”
“O dear Lord I thought @taylorswift13 was naked in her new video..” one fan tweeted.
Another Twitter user wrote, “Taylor Swift used to sing about being 15 and now she sings about sex. She is naughty and full of sin and she needs Jesus.”
Naturally, Taylor had the perfect response to the criticism.
Hours after the music video’s big release, the “Look What You Made Me Do” songstress took to Instagram to share behind-the-scenes photos from the set. Posting a selfie of her wearing the eyebrow-raising bodysuit and pretending to look concerned, she wrote alongside a laughing emoji, “It truly warms my heart that ppl had so much to say about this bodysuit.”
She also shared a mirror selfie showing her whole figure in the suit along with another photo of her being helped into the outfit by a group of assistants.
As it appears, the final suit was digitally altered and smoothed out to match Taylor’s face and neck. Blue lights were also added in post-production.
“Such a pleasure to collaborate with both a powerful creative artist and fantastic human…” director Joseph Kahn tweeted, before giving a nod to Taylor’s “This Is What You Came For” songwriting alias, Nils Sjybörg.”
