Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber Are Talking Again After Kidney Transplant
Jelena is back!
Half a decade after their initial breakup, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber are finally back on speaking terms. The couple, who dated on-and-off for years before calling it quits for the final time in 2015, is back in each other’s lives after Selena underwent a life-saving kidney transplant stemming from complications with lupus. According to Us Weekly, the exes got together “a couple months after her surgery.”
“Selena is simply trying to make peace with Justin after her illness,” one insider shares. “He has been great to her since her surgery and they are on good terms right now. They got back in touch recently through their friends and have seen each other at church.”
Despite a tumultuous relationship plagued with cheating allegations, Selena, 25, and Justin, 23, have seemingly begun to mend fences. The pair is said to be spending time together after it was revealed the “Wolves” songstress’ health took a turn for the worse this summer.
Being parishioners of the Hillsong Church, the two reportedly reconnected with help from their friends.
“Justin and Selena recently started speaking. I don’t know when exactly but it’s because of the same church they go to. The community there is pretty tight knit and Justin and Selena have a lot of mutual friends who brought them back together,” the insider spills. “They realized it was time to grow past their history and move on. They’re grown up a lot in the past couple of years and are mature about the situation.”
As fans know, Selena and Justin had a rocky relationship as exes since breaking up in 2012 after more than a year of dating. Though they got back together and continued the on-again, off-again romance for another three years, they eventually ended things for good in 2015. At the time, Justin told Access Hollywood, “It was really tough. I don’t know if I’m over it yet.”
“I think that I’m definitely in another place and I think we’ve definitely went our separate ways. I love her and I want her to be awesome, but there are things that remind me of her,” he continued, adding:
“I don’t think if you end a relationship, you should end that, unless it was super toxic and you guys were hurting each other physically or mentally. We always respected each other and we still respect each other.”
In 2016, Selena publicly claimed Justin had “cheated multiple times” while calling out his new relationship with then-girlfriend Sofia Richie. In response, the “Sorry” singer accused her of being unfaithful by cheating on him with former One Direction member Zayn Malik.
