They're not wasting time
Let’s face it: The world can’t get enough of celebrity weddings.. Even if you’re not obsessed with them, you probably know about them. From the glitz, to the glamour, to the multi-million dollar budgets to construct the day you can only dream of, what’s not to love about them?
However, when you’re at that level of fame, sometimes the marriages following the actual wedding don’t actually last. Annulments and divorces remain ever popular among the American royal class — with some marriages lasting as little as a few days. We’ve put together some of the shockingly shortest celebrity marriages of all time.
Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian
We all love a good celebrity wedding — but we also all love a good celebrity divorce. There’s a reason the drama is always in the headlines, and when a couple splits quickly, it becomes all the more shocking.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were a match made in heaven, outside of their extreme height difference. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star allegedly had some reservations about marrying the NBA player, but ended up going through with it because she was concerned people would think she only did it for the show. Unfortunately, that was exactly what people thought when the two eventually broke up.
The wedding itself reportedly cost a cool $10 million, making the fact that they were only together for 72 days sting all at worse. There was a ton of criticism for the divorce, which actually dragged out longer than their marriage.
Kim’s doing just fine though, having gone on to marry and produce three children with love-him-or-hate-him Kanye West.
Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger
In a match that absolutely no one understood, Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger seemed doomed from the start. The couple got hitched on a St. John island beach after meeting just four months earlier at a charity concert.
Just 225 days later, in a move everyone expected, the actress filed for annulment against the county singer, citing “fraud.” Originally, it was suspected that “fraud” was code for gay, but Kenny came out to explain that they had decided on the reason together, as it was the “least harmful” reason.
Shortly after filing for the annulment in September 2005, Renee issued a statement clarifying that the term “fraud” was “simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny’s character.”
The couple also issued a joint statement through a spokesperson in which they attributed the annulment to a “miscommunication of the objective of their marriage.”
While they’ve kept just what those miscommunications were under wraps, the country star doesn’t have regrets.
“Even though I’d sit here and say I wish we’d gotten divorced instead of all that annulment stuff, and saved me a lot of public humiliation…I still don’t have any regrets,” he said. “I loved her, you know? And it was real.”
Brittany Spears and Jason Alexander
In perhaps the most famous set of I Dos and I Don’ts, Britney Spears eloped with childhood friend Jason Alexander — not the guy from Seinfeld, by the way — in 2004. The pair where husband and wife for a whopping total of 55 hours before they got their union annulled.
The two were totally sober during the Las Vegas ceremony while being escorted by Palms limousine driver down the aisle. The bride wore a baseball cap and town jeans.
Luckily, it was a drama-free end for the pair, as Jason was fine with granting Britney a quick end to the joke marriage.
“It was just crazy, man,” the pop star’s longtime pal said after the wedding. “And we were just looking at each other and said, ‘Let’s do something wild, crazy. Let’s go get married, just for the hell of it.”’
