Will Smith’s Daughter Makes Shocking Self-Harm Confession
Willow Smith admits to cutting herself
All Grown Up
In a new bombshell confession, the 17-year-old singer opened up about her experiences with self-harm. While appearing on the Facebook Watch talk show, Red Table Talk, Willow revealed to her mom and grandmother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, that she started to purposefully cut herself as early as the age of nine.
According to the teen star, her darkest moment came following the success of her 2010 smash single, “Whip My Hair,” and the pressure she felt to continue making music.
“I would have to say I honestly feel like I lost my sanity at one point,” she shared. “It was after that whole ‘Whip My Hair’ thing and I had just stopped doing singing lessons and I was kind of just in this gray area of, ‘Who am I? Do I have a purpose? Is there anything I can do besides this?’”
“After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album. And I was like, I’m not gonna do that,” she continued. “After all of that kind of settled down, I was listening to a lot of dark music and it was just so crazy and I was just plunged into this black hole and I was, like, cutting myself and doing crazy things.”
As Willow has never publicly addressed her experiences with self-harm, the revelation left Jada and Adrienne stunned into disbelief.
“What? Really? When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part? Cutting yourself where?” her mother responded in shock.
Willow explained that her older brothers, Jaden, 19, and Trey, 25, didn’t know either as she showed her mom the scars on her forearms and wrists.
“There’s still a little something there. Totally lost my sanity for a moment there,” she said. “I never talk about it because it was such a short, weird point in my life but you have to pull yourself out of it.”
