Rumors about a spinoff of CW teen soap Gossip Girl have been zipping around since the summer.
But while today Star magazine "exclusively revealed" details of a branched-out GG series featuring the characters Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle) and Lily van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford) when they were younger, E! Online has countered and said that's all a bunch of useless babble.
Star's source told the mag, "It begins when they first meet, during a time when Rufus and his band are at the height of their career. The show will follow the high society and rock 'n' roll lifestyle in New York."
However, E! points out while that was indeed an idea being bounced around by Gossip producers, it was simply as a pitch for Verizon-sponsored webisodes of the series.
In June, the show's executive producer Josh Schwartz put the kibosh on tales of a spinoff featuring 15-year-old Taylor Momsen's character, Jenny Humphrey. That particular premise was said to feature "Little J" at an all-girls boarding school.
Alas, with all the gossip surrounding Girl, it's hard to remember that the CW's breakout hit is only in the middle of its second season.
Monday night's episode found the program ending with a cliffhanger before it returns to the air after the holidays, in January.
And, who knows, maybe there will be a spinoff at some point. Would you watch? Hit up our poll and let us know your thoughts.
