Believe it or not, as of June 26, it's been exactly a year since Paris Hilton was released from jail for antics related to a DUI charge. With her first taste of freedom, the blond socialite hit the press circuit, informing Larry King of her newfound interest in spirituality and vowing to become a humanitarian.

Now, on the anniversary of her release, Hilton has made an "extremely generous" donation to Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Paris said in a statement, "I am proud to make a donation and lend my name to the fundraising effort to help children who are facing terribly serious illnesses."

Hilton's contribution to the hospital will go toward construction of a 460,000-square-foot Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases, planned to open in 2010.

Lest anyone think this gesture is uncharacteristically giving of Paris, don't forget that the woman has spent a lifetime donating her body to the advancement of the science of self-tanning.
