Updates on the story "Avril Lavigne to Collect $2 Mil From YouTube?" on Celebuzz

If Avril Lavigne's peeps have their way, the "Sk8er Boi" songstress is about to get paid.

Terry McBride, CEO of Nettwerk Management, claims that "there's about a $2 million check waiting for [Lavigne] for all her YouTube plays" after her "Girlfriend" video became the site's most-viewed clip ever, reports Wired magazine.

The video has more than 92 million hits, though that number may have been inflated by Lavigne fan site Avril Bandaids.

"Every 15 seconds this page will automaticallly [sic] refresh," reads Bandaids' initial bulletin to fans, "adding 1 view to Girlfriend's YouTube total each time it does. Keep this page open while you study for exams, or even sleep. For extra viewing power, open up two or more browser windows at this page!"

Sweet; so Lavigne is poised to collect two mil, based on fake video views of a song that she might have pilfered from another band.

Much like another recent endeavor of Lavigne's, there's something that smells about this.

The 23-year-old singer’s music video “Girlfriend” became YouTube’s most-viewed video ever, and has been watched more than 93 million times. Lavigne’s manager says YouTube owes her around $2 million for views of her videos on YouTube.

Avril’s fans have been banding together to inflate the play count artificially by using a constantly refreshing website that adds one pageview every 15 seconds to her music video.

A YouTube spokesperson made the following statement: “We have safeguards in place that limit the efficiency of this type of behavior, to make sure that advertising campaigns running on YouTube only reach legitimate viewers and are in no way affected by inflated view counts or gaming activities.”

Avril Lavigne is expecting a $2 million check from YouTube for the views of her "Girlfriends" video. Her video is currently the most viewed video on YouTube with over 93 million views. This is, however, not completely true. As Avril Lavigne's fans set a goal to get her video to be the most viewed video on YouTube by constantly refreshing the page every 15 seconds.

This is a bit shocking to me. Because I thought that after all the concert cancellations (some even at the very last minute) Avril was left with no fans at all.
