Updates on the story "DJ AM: The 'Night' Before the Crash" on Celebuzz

Just weeks before the plane crash that would leave four dead, and he and a colleague severely burned, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein participated in his first starring magazine profile.

Goldstein graced the cover of Saturday Night Magazine, wherein he discussed his hesitation to team up with fellow crash survivor Travis Barker.

"At first I was apprehensive, because I have seen it done and it can look sloppy," Goldstein said of tapping Barker for a musical collaboration playing the drums in sync with his spinning.

"I always think less is more, but then I realized, wait a minute, this is Travis Barker. Aside from the image and the tattoos and whatever, the dude is an incredible drummer," said Goldstein.

The pairing spurred excitement—the two scored gigs as house band at the MTV Video Music Awards and a spot on the T-Mobile Campus Tour that brought them to South Carolina (where their hired Learjet crashed).

The inside spread portrays a contented Goldstein, once engaged to humanitarian/reality star Nicole Richie, concerned with eliminating status in nightclubs and getting people to dance.

"Bottle service has ruined fun. Now it's about real estate," Goldstein says of the club scene. "It's about 'Look at me and my success.' Where does that leave the fun in dancing?"

When he's not hitting the tables you can find him educating young people about addiction.

"What I do with the majority of my free time is help people get off drugs," Goldstein told the mag. "It's nice to just sit and listen to them talk about what's going on in their life."

And about his?

"I am the luckiest man alive," he said. "I get paid a ridiculous amount of money to do what I would do for free anyway."

And for a few other reasons, no doubt.
