Updates on the story "Mickey Rourke, Friend to the Gays" on Celebuzz

Oh, Mickey Rourke; you're such an enigma.

The friendly but volatile actor has issued an apology after using an anti-gay slur in reference to a gossip writer, E! Online reports.

The moment of verbal intolerance occurred on Sunday night, as Rourke was entering Los Angeles nightclub Hyde. When a paparazzo inquired about rumors that Rourke was dating Wrestler costar Evan Rachel Wood, the actor shot back, "She's a good friend, that's it. Tell that fagg*t who wrote all that sh*t in the paper I'd like to break his f*cking legs."

View the wicked-classy exchange below:

Now Rourke has issued a statement: "I want to sincerely apologize for the derogatory word I used. It was insensitive and inappropriate of me and I am deeply sorry that I may have offended anyone."

This isn't the first time that Rourke has raised eyebrows by publicly dropping the F-bomb. In 2006, he also used the word in reference to a drunk fan he almost got in a fight with.

"Look, I'm not afraid to say the word f*g," Rourke told New York's Time Out magazine in response to that incident. "I've got plenty of gay friends. We toss the word around."

True enough. But, to be fair, a lot of things get tossed around when he's hanging out with his merry crew.
