Heath Ledger Posthumously Honored in Homeland
Heath Ledger‘s performance as the Joker continues to solidify his iconic status. The late actor was given top honors by the Australian Film Institute for his turn in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight.
The Associated Press reports Ledger’s family, who approach the year anniversary of when the 28-year-old actor was discovered dead in his New York City apartment, went yesterday to accept the award on Heath’s behalf.
Parents Kim and Sally and sister Kate stood at the podium to praise Ledger’s commitment and craft.
“Heath was never one to accept mediocrity. He put his heart and soul into achieving what he believed was required and followed his passions with great enthusiasm and an insatiable curiosity,” Heath’s mother said.
His sister echoed that it’s been “without a doubt the most difficult year, losing such a loved family member.” All tearfully reinforced Ledger’s devotion to his friends, family and daughter Matilda Rose, 3.
Matilda’s mother, Michelle Williams, recently opened up about losing Heath.
“It’s so sad. I guess it’s always changing. What else can I say? I just wake up each day in a slightly different place—grief is like a moving river,” the 28-year-old actress told Newsweek last month.
On January 22, 2009, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences will announce the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards.
Ledger is anticipated to score a posthumous nomination.
