I can't seem to help myself and I'm going to through in my .10 cents. I am the mother of three daughters ages 28, 25 (autistic), and 18 (step daughter), and I have a pretty good relationship with each of them. Here are my tips. 1.) Love! Always always show your total unconditional love for her. My daughters say one thing they never doubted was that I love them. 2.) Be human. When you make mistakes, and you will, don't be afraid to own them and say I'm sorry. 3.) Many say you can't be you child's friend. I think you can just know where to draw the line and ALWAYS be their parent FIRST. 4.) Honesty. Be honest at all cost. from yes there are more cookies but no you can not have any more, to where babies come from, to yes i smoked pot or had pre marital sex. (At the appropriate age of course.) 5.) Never be afraid to tell you daughter you don't know the answer to the problem either but be willing to talk it out or find out. 6.) Don't forget they are learning to be human and what that felt like to you. Missing a party may seem like nothing to you now with adult problems but learning how to deal with these issues is HOW they learn to deal with bigger problem later, and the problem does SEEM HUGE to them NOW.
