On the heels of a sweeping, shirtless turn opposite Nicole Kidman in Baz Luhrman‘s Australia, Hugh Jackman returns with an agitated, shirtless thrill ride in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Jackman, 40, gets to explore the former life of his furry action hero Wolverine—known as Logan before yielding to a Government experience that would turn him into a steel-clawed beast.

Plot turns includes Daddy issues, obligatory war scenes and lost love.

While this is Jackman’s show, other faces you might have seen include Ryan Reynolds (Mr. Scarlett Johansson) and vamped-out Liev Schreiber (Mr. New Dad).

The flick is slated for a May 1, 2009 release.
