No question, it was a big Oscars night for James Cameron‘s ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow, who won Best Director for The Hurt Locker, which also walked away with Best Picture.
Cameron himself? Not so much. For all the cash and accolades that Avatar has raked in, pretty much the only thing he came away from the Oscars with was Ben Stiller‘s mockery ringing in his ears like a bitter echo.
Which makes the above Tweeted photo—perhaps THE photo of the night from this year’s Oscars—all the more curious and ripe for dissection. Was Cameron going in for a congratulatory, extra-high hug, or is there something more nefarious at play here?
