Jen and John Work the Room After Their First Red Carpet

Feb 23, 2009 at 2:00pm

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer walked their first red carpet last night at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party and proceeded to mingle as a couple amongst the Hollywood A-list crowd.

“If I ever saw them apart, it was not for too long a time,” says a fellow party-goer of the oft-reclusive couple. “They were holding hands. No dramatic public displays. But there was a real warmth and supportiveness in their interactions.”

The two spent time hob-nobbing the star-studded room. “They were working it,” says the source. “Jen was talking to Madge and Meryl Streep and then Kate Winslet.”

“It seemed like everyone was old friends.”

Jen looked “supremely confident and relaxed” just hours after coming practically shoulder-to-shoulder with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the Oscars ceremony at the Kodak Theater. Even Oprah Winfrey commented on how uncomfortably close the two couples were during the universally-watched television event.

The Vanity Fair party was billed as a possible sequel to this awkward interaction, as Brad and Angelina were rumored to attend. But, come game-time, Brad and Ange were nowhere to be seen.

Instead, Jen enjoyed a night at one of her favorite restaurants without the sequel to that tale. “Jen seemed completely in her element,” says our party-goer.

John’s reaction of the evening was clear. He Twittered during the evening that “JA” was one of the “soulful celebrities that know how to feed a heart and not steal.”

Too cute!
