Oscar-winner and American Idol also-ran Jennifer Hudson will not let sorrow keep her from doing what she loves. E! Online reports that the "Spotlight" singer is set to perform on February 6 at the 2009 MusiCares Person of the Year benefit in Los Angeles. The concert, which will honor Neil Diamond, will take place two days before the Grammy Awards show.
This past October, the gutsy and inspirational singer was struck by a triple tragedy. Her mother, 58-year-old Darnell Donerson, and brother, 29-year-old Jason Hudson, were found murdered in the Chicago house they shared. The body of Jennifer's nephew, seven-year-old James King, was discovered in a vehicle nearby.
The MusiCares performance will mark the first time the 27-year-old Dreamgirls breakout star has performed in public since the slayings. She will share the stage with Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Adele. Two nights later, the phenomenal underdog will be in contention to win four Grammys, including Best R&B album for Jennifer Hudson.
Jennifer's mom and brother, if they can see her now, are certainly proud.
