Jessica Biel, Minority of One
Jessica Biel battles daily with bigotry. And it has nothing to do with her gay-wedding-planning boyfriend Justin Timberlake and the recent passage of California’s Proposition 8.
The Easy Virtue actress and lonely celebrity blogger tells British newspaper the Independent that poor choices in acting roles (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, anyone?) made it difficult for her to establish herself as a serious thespian.
“If I had that [Massacre] opportunity now I probably wouldn’t do it,” Biel says. “But I needed to take on something that would jump-start me.”
Does she still battle that prejudice? “Yeah. I’m still fighting against it. Fighting every day.”
On top of all that, the 26-year-old is constantly doing battle with ageism.
Fight the good fight, Jessica! You have to deal with prejudice in Hollywood, but take comfort in the fact that you’re not the only one with that burden.
Besides, it could be worse: You could be grappling with the evil of extreme sexism like some of your contemporaries.
Where in God’s name is the ACLU when they’re really needed?
