You can't blame a girl for trying. Jessica Simpson has been threatening to go country for months, and now she's made good (or bad). Her first C&W single, "Come On Over," has hit the Web, and it's about what you'd expect—part Dolly Parton, part Minnie Mouse, part Joe Simpson. Hey, if you can't hack it in pop, might as well turn to Nashville.
Take a listen, then take our poll and tell us if the new tune is a hit or a miss.
Papa Joe has his girl going whole hog into the new genre, complete with a new Tennessee pad and songs for the upcoming CD that spring from her hopes and, oh, her heartache. She even penned a tune for on-off boyfriend Tony Romo called "Back in My Old Boots," because "he reintroduced me to myself...I thought that I had to be deeper, more profound and more artsy. You change with the guys you date." Yeah, especially if you're dating them along with your dad.
The beleagured singer and "actress" and reality star hasn't had much luck with her music career in recent years. Her 2006 offering, A Public Affair, only reached 800,000 copies worldwide.
Simpson recently suffered the one-two punch of sister Ashlee Simpson getting married to rocker Pete Wentz and Romo calling interference on their relationship from Joe. Now Ashlee is also reportedly having a little Wentz.
So, when your sister's rubbing her newlywed bliss in your face, and you need your daddy to step in to keep your man, well, that's definitely grist for a country song.
