John Mayer Sings for the Sick

on Dec. 23, 2008 12:20 PM / 1 Comment

Somehow, John Mayer managed to slip away from Jennifer Aniston's vise-like grip long enough Monday to do a very nice thing for some very unlucky kids.

The 31-year-old troubadour performed at Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, New York, as part of 95.5 WPLJ-FM's 17th Annual Scott & Todd live broadcast & auction. The invitation-only event, hosted by radio station WPLJ-FM, raises about $250,000 each year for the hospital.  The party drew approximately 400 people this year, according to LoHud.com.

The early-morning shindig—it started at 6 a.m. and lasted for four hours—also featured performances by Matchbox 20 frontman Rob Thomas, Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson. The day's highlight came when Thomas, 36, joined Mayer onstage for a heartfelt rendition of the Ben E. King classic "Stand By Me."

Wow; it almost makes being sick worth it!

WPLJ DJs Scott and Todd, who've hosted the event since it began, annually urge listeners to donate to the hospital and participate in an online auction of rock and sports memorabilia.
