According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Johnny Depp will rake in $55 million to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series—the highest amount an actor's ever been paid for a single movie.

The massive payday may very well hurtle Depp past Will Smith as the highest-paid actor in show business as well. The adamant bachelor and all-around good guy landed just behind Smith on Forbes' list of highest-paid actors last year, raking in $72 million to Smith's $80 million, but the $55 million haul for POTC 4, along with other projects—such as playing the role of Tonto in an upcoming Lone Ranger flick and portraying the Mad Hatter in director Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland remake—is expected to put him solidly in the Number One spot.
