Katie Holmes is working on a new movie in NYC, The Extra Man, and her character appears to have a whimsical side to her.

Mrs. Cruise and co-star filmed a night scene and Holmes had several rainbow-colored beads attached to her otherwise sensible mom haircut.

Odd choice. Her character seems to be a little eccentric, judging by recent photos of her shooting scenes sobbing in a Depression-era looking winter cap.

Holmes, who recently referred to gossip about her family as "disgusting," also shot scenes at NYC's famed Russian Tea Room wearing her new beads.

It is nice to see Holmes' face lit up by some color. She has a tendency to look a little wan lately.
