The “I Kissed a Girl” singer has taken to her blog to show off a piece of bling she purchased while inspired by the swine flu outbreak.
“Since swine flu is super trendy I wanted to make sure I was in style with my swine flu ring!” Perry writes. “I got this one in Miami at Big Drop the other day…a flying piggy. Perfect.”

Swine Flu is not that big of a deal. In North America it’s not even considered a severe flu. The reason many have died in Mexico is because they don’t have the same resources to treat it. Not many people have died from it here and from what I understand, the people who have died had pre-existing conditions. So Katy Perry bought a ring, it’s not that big of a deal. Get over it.

If I may attempt and answer on another’s behalf- Sometimes we see things that are just so eye-roll inducing (such as this article) that we have to comment on them, even as we’re aware that we’re lowering ourselves to this gossipy level. I suspect it’s an aggregate thing. I’m rolling my eyes at so many things that eventually I’ll snap and comment on one.
Did everyone bitching at her insensitivity consider that she’s not mocking the people who have died of swine flu, but the ridiculous media hype surrounding it? Her comments are just clearly mocking the media hype. First its 157 dead, and then the number gets revised down massively to 30, And only one person in a first world country has died from it so far.
And what, pigs and all pig related paraphenalia are banned now? I mean if you want to get into technicalities, it’s a mixture of swine, avian and human influenza, so maybe we shouldn’t say anything in anyway related to birds or people either, just in case… I’m sure we’ll have something left to talk about that’s totally pc.
