Sonia, why would I care about Rob making a joke about a vagina allergy? Did you even get the point of that joke, by the way? He means the opposite of what you, no doubt, think. He means that he REALLY likes vagina. A lot. They cause him to get all swollen and red. Get it. A joke. But what about it was supposed to be offensive to me? Unless you have the mentality of a seven year old and get squicked out by the mention of vagina, I see nothing to get bent out of shape about.

Kristen’s comment shows her immaturity and poor verbal skills. I’m sure she meant to say that she felt violated and intruded upon, and I can understand her point of view. But the word rape is hyperbolic and for those who have actually lived through that experience, it carries a heavy emotional and psychological weight. The word itself is wounding. It’s difficult to think of it, it’s personal connotations can not be separated from one’s own experiences. Seeing the word, especially when one least expects it and is ill-prepared for it, can send you right back into that experience with all those horrible emotions.

It’s kind of easy to understand if you know anything about post traumatic stress disorder. Certain things, situations, words, can trigger those horrible memories and feelings, putting you back into panic mode or sinking you into a deep depression. This is why the word rape should not be bandied around like a joke. It’s not a joke. It’s not funny. It shouldn’t be used lightly.

Personally, I think she should simply admit to making a mistake in the choice of words. If she was having a conversation with someone and said the word and that person was offended, she would probably apologize at once and say that it wasn’t the right word to use. No big deal.

I can’t believe she would compare getting her picture taken to rape. Really? Didn’t she do a movie where she portrayed a rape victim, and didn’t she do a PSA on the topic? You would think she would have learned something, or at least be sensitive about using that word to describe something so trivial. But no, she didn’t learn a damn thing

She agreed to be an actress, she agreed to be popular, she agreed to be in a lot of magazines, she agreed to be photographed at premieres like RM where she could have stayed behind. Rape victims didn’t agree to be raped.

I’m a Huge Rob fan but I also love and respect Kristen, and I can garatee you they are a lot of Rob fans that feel the same.
The hate comes from everyhere…not just from some Rob fans and the hate isn’t just for Kristen, they are people who hate Rob too…I for one don’t understand how someone can hate them,

It’s normal for paps for taking pictures. If it wouldn’t be allowed then they wouldn’t be doing it.
It’s very easy. If you’re popular then you’re going to get photographed. If you don’t like it then choose another job.

No, but I know what being raped feels like. I know what it feels like to be traumatized to the point of being unable to pee in a public bathroom or even at someone’s house because of fear of being even partially undressed around strangers. I know what it’s like to be so traumatized that I was unable to bear the weight of a man on top of me without having a panic attack. I know what it’s like to live in fear of being left alone with a man, to have difficulty even talking to or relating to a man, even now, because of that one incident. I guarantee you, if Kristen’s experience had been anywhere near as traumatizing as an actual rape, she would be out of the public eye and into therapy.

I don’t think she realized how her quote would sound. Being a victim of rape, I don’t find this offensive, however, I think it isn’t the right wording for it.
