Kristen Stewart Gets Even More Competition for “Dragon Tattoo” Role
Oh dear; Kristen Stewart is going to have to do a lot more than bite her lower lip and look lovelorn if she wants to land the lead in The Girl WIth the Dragon Tattoo.
As reported earlier, the Eclipse beauty is said to be in competition with An Education‘s Carey Mulligan for the part of bisexual computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming adaptation of the Swedish hit. And now it appears that K-Stew will have to beat out a formidable list of A-list actresses if she wants the role. Anne Hathaway, Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman are now also in contention for the movie, in which Salander teams up with a washed-up journalist to solve a disappearance case.
Director David Fincher is currently weighing the casting options, and is “not sure if he wants to go with an actress of any note or go with an unknown.” According to a movie insider,
“David’s process is very specific and private. He’s looking for authenticity and a degree of fierceness and believability capable of delivering the intensity that the part on the page calls for.”
Also working against Stewart: The timing and logistics of the production. Filming is currently expected to begin in October—about the time that Stewart will likely be filming the Twilight series’ Breaking Dawn. And since The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will likely be lensed in Sweden and other foreign countries, hopping from set to set would be quite the challenge for Stewart, who’s also scheduled to film the big-screen adaptation of classic Beat Generation novel On the Road this summer.
The solution seems to be obvious: The medical community is going to have to clone Kristen Stewart. Hey, it wouldn’t be bad having more than one of her to go around.

uh….since confirming On the Road and Breaking Dawn(for two movies back to back), there’s no way she’s even trying to be in the running for this. The dude is planning to start in Octobert, and he already said he wanted a non-name Helllo….
no way anne and natalie are afer it…they are too old for the character.
I agree with lola, Kstew is too busy she can’t do this movie and the only other than kstew to play this role would be Natalie portman even though she is older but she would be the alternative. The rest nah no competition there.
i thick it better if kristen stewart get movie.
its obvious Kristen has other commitments sooooo..an unknown..these actresses are very talented but not right for the role..they cant bring the edge like K can..no way..Angelina Jolie but shes too old..lol..too old…so who..and carry mulligan is allll wrong if they cast her i will not be watching..Kristen would have been perfect..sorry anyone who doesnt like the truth can f off!!!!!!!
Any1 BUT that tw*tt Stewart!!
Please just no Scarlett Johannson.
She’s an awful actress.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Carey Mulligan.

i would love for kristen to get this part but i would also love to keira knightley
They’re gonna cast an unknown, since it’s obvious kris won’t have the time, and I can’t see little bitty natalie portman or childish looking carey mulligan doing it. Scarlett johannson, please no and anne hathaway HELL NO. But Kristen would have been so perfect for the role! I saw the Swedish version and it was awesome, could totally see Kristen as Lisbeth, however she would have to get in the weight room haha.
Definitely Kristen
to say that Natalie and Anne are too old is just plain stupid as Lisbeth Salander is supposed to have been born in 1978. Kristen however would be way to young. I don’t get why Hollywood insist on hirering 20 year olds to play the part of women in their 30s, no wonder people go nuts when they age and feel they have do use botox and sh*t..
Is this a joke. How is silly is it to even think that a talentless crack whore like girl like Stewart can even think of standing a chance against Natalie Portman

I know!
K-Stew isn’t in the same league as Ellen Page, Anne Hathaway and Natalie Portman. Let’s be realistic.
Somebody said that some of the actresses look too ‘childish’. The character is supposed to look ‘childish’ and a lot younger than she is. Salander is 24 going on 25 (Born in 1978 and presumably the novel is set in 2003-about the time Larsson was drafting it. Note the model of Mac laptop she considers buying.) One must note that it is said many times that she could be easily mistaken for a 15 year old boy. So the age of the actress isn’t a massively important deal. Experience and ability, however, is.
Ellen Page is the obvious choice going on the uncanny physical match and her proven ability playing edgy, vulnerable and violent young women in films like Hard Candy and The Tracey Fragments.
This is silly; a no-name is the most likely option, but of those listed, ONLY Natalie Portman (i.e. in ‘Léon’ and ‘V for Vendetta’) has ever managed to convincingly depict damaged, hard characters like that of Salander. Besides, notwithstanding the piercings and overall look, Salander (supposed to have been born in 1978), is actually older than Portman (born in 1981).
if kristen can’t do it, carey should. she’d be awesome.

Completely agree!!! Anyone who has read the book would know that they are not young enough or quirky enough for Lisbeth. If Kristen is not available – Carey is an excellent choice. She could pull off the character beautifully.

Why is Carey Mullign an option? Her breakthrough as Jenny in An Education is hardly comparable to Salander and everything else she has done has been a period drama. Everyone’s getting a bit ahead of themselves with her ‘range’.
everyone is better than “K-Stew” (what a stupid nick name…) i don’t wanna see her whiney face in every movie…..
I think Mulligan is the right choice.
Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, or Ellen Page would all be perfect for the role. I hope one of them gets cast.
To those who don’t know, Lisbeth is supposed to be 4′ 11″, kind of Lolita-ish, stubborn, intelligent, and hard to read.
It’s a role that requires acting talent to be successful. That automatically rules out K-stew.
Proud Swedish girl :) I bet u americans can take wich super actress u want, you will NEVER do the film like it’s in sweden, you can’t be that crude, not from what i’ve seen… well well!

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU,THE OTHER ACTRESSES ARE JUST TOO OLD FOR THE PART.K-STEW WOULD FIT THE PART PERFECTLY AND IF IT CAN’T BE HER,THEY MIGHT AS WELL GET AN UNKNOWN………….
HAHA.. do they have to make a hollywood version?? Why don’t you just watch the swedish version, it’s GOOD! And sorry but Noomi Rapace, who plays Lisbeth in the swedish films, IS Lisbeth Salander!! I don’t think anybody can do the role better than her..
WHY ON EARTH are they making a remake? Americans can’t read subtitles and are therefore unable to see the swedish movie? Please! The original movie was great, and if you have read the book you will surely agree taht the swedish actress was perfect for Lisbeth Salander. Carey Mulligan or Kristen Stewart.. that would be a catastrophe.
I think it should be an Unknown. I hate it when they make epic movies with really well known actors. It spoils it for me.
I think that Kristen would be amazing as Lisbeth. She has the stoic yet awkward social ways about her. I truly think that of all the choices that she is the best for the part. She has a lot more to offer then most of you rude jerks are giving her credit for. You’re obviously just sad, jealous, small people to say such scathing things about a person you have never met. If you don’t like her acting say so and leave it at that. The name calling just makes you look ignorant and classless.
i only care to watch kristen stewart movies. i like the movies because of her. the others are okay, but the only actress i could painfully watch (if that’s others would like to put it) would be KRISTEN STEWART, KRISTEN STEWART and KRISTEN STEWART. And i am not alone. There’s MILLION of us. So producers and jealous creeps, you better think it over if you plan on playing hardball with her because WE DON’T REALLY CARE ABOUT YOUR MOVIES! Its the ACTRESS that we LOVE! and its KRISTEN STEWART!.
i would love to play lisbeth
