Lady Gaga Snags a Record 13 MTV VMA Nominations
Lady Gaga is the queen of this year's MTV Video Music Awards, earning 13 nominations -- the most any artist has ever received in a single year.
PEOPLE broke the news that the eccentric Gaga racked up nominations mostly thanks to her 'Bad Romance' video, which snagged noms in the following categories: best pop video, best dance music video, best female video and best choreography. 'Telephone,' her collaboration with Beyonce, is also nominated for best choreography.
In true Gaga fashion, she gave much of the credit to her "monsters" -- aka her fans.
"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history ... Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13 ... A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"
Gaga's 'Romance' until recently was the most-watched video in YouTube history, until she was dethroned by Justin Bieber's 'Baby.'
The VMAs -- where something ridiculous always happen (looking in your direction, Kanye) -- are set to air live on Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. EST. At last year's show, Gaga performed her single 'Paparazzi,' eventually acting out her own death, complete with blood and theatrics. Watch it below:
