Lauren Conrad Is a Doggone Diva

Don't believe the hype about Lauren Conrad being a pooch person.

The Hills up-and-comer clearly has experience with animals, but her appearance at Animal Fair magazine's charity event last night lacked puppy love.

According to New York magazine, she couldn't tell reporters at New York's Arena what breed of dog she was carrying, and—woof!—she slammed the pup into a video camera.

Once inside, she refused to walk her dog down the runway, to the dismay of attendees, who paid anywhere between $100 and $5,000 to see just that.

A charity event shells out ten grand to bring you to New York, and you split before the thing is over?

Wrong time for the diva routine, L.C.; unless you're this chick—and she's cornered the market on that kind of behavior.

Stick to showcasing these puppies. The pretending-to-care thing really isn't your strong suit.

UPDATE: Well, it didn't take long for Lauren to wield her mightiest of defense weapons in this fracas—a rant on her MySpace blog:

"I have always been a supporter of animal causes. I own 2 rescue animals and this sounded like a great event.  I agreed to pose for the cover of the magazine, host the event, do press at the event and donate clothing, all of which I did.  I was not aware of any other commitments.  I was not paid to attend the event and my hotel room was donated to the charity.   I also made a voluntary donation to the Humane Society for more then the cost of my airfare so there would be no expense to the charity.  I have always been responsible and keep my word on all commitments.   I am extremely hurt and disappointed that Wendy Diamond would go to the press and attack me with untrue statements.  Anyone who knows me, knows this is not the kind of person I am or who my parent's raised me to be. It's just embarrassing that people are saying these things about me."

There's more, but you get the point. Moral of the story? Don't get in the middle of a Wendy Diamond-L.C. cat fight!
