Lily Allen Is Quitting the Music Business!

Sep 24, 2009 at 2:00pm

Sad news, Lily Allen fans; according to the New Musical Express, the “Smile” singer is abandoning her music career, perhaps in favor of a future in acting.

In a (since removed) entry on her blog, Allen announced that she won’t be renewing her contract with record label EMI and is not pursuing a recording contract with another label.

Allen wrote,

“Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record. I do however remain a fan of new music, so this is not some selfish crusade.”

So why would Allen give up a career that’s provided the music lovers of the world with so much joy and silly outfits? Blame it on illegal file-sharing, which Allen has been vigorously campaigning against.

“The days of me making money from recording music have been and gone as far as I’m concerned, so I don’t (at this point) stand to profit from legislation [from the government regarding file-sharing]. Except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won’t be much).”

Oh, sure; but it’s okay for Lily to borrow Britney Spears‘ songs when the mood suits her.

Let us know in the comments section: Do you think Allen is serious about quitting music and, if so, will you miss her?
