It seems like only ten years ago that simmering actress Lucy Liu reinvigorated the Fox network's stalling Ally McBeal with the arrival of provocative and somewhat cruel Ling Woo to the unisex corporate restroom.
A career was launched.
And in 2008, the Kill Bill assassin's onscreen stength and sensuality seemed like a natural fit for Cashmere Mafia's no-nonsense Mia Mason. Perfect, except ABC canceled their Sex and the City-inspired series after only seven episodes.
But like her Kill Bill character, 39-year-old Liu (she'll be 40 on December 2) landed on her feet, doing battle as Nola Lyons in another ABC show about sin and status—Dirty Sexy Money.
Unfortunately, it's taken less than ten episodes for Lucy's terrible curse to catch up with DSM. ABC has confirmed to E! Online that they will not be renewing the series.
Maybe costars Donald Sutherland, Peter Krause and Jill Calyburgh—seasoned professionals all—have the same flaw as Lucy Liu. They are just too damned good for their own sake.

I found DSM a truly unique family -ish . . . I don't know what.
The very fact that so many heavy hitters were onboard the project tells a great deal about the quality of the writing and the directing.
I think the real problem is the industry itself--it's rudderless.
