Madonna: Committing Cardinal Sins?

How badly has Madonna‘s reputation suffered since divorcing her 40-year-old ex-husband, Guy Ritchie?

Now, apparently, it seems that she compares unfavorably even to mass-murdering dictators.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that retired Catholic Cardinal Roger Medina condemned the 50-year-old singer during a mass honoring late Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Pinochet, it’s worth noting, oversaw the deaths of more than 3,000 dissidents between 1973 and 1990. (He died in December 2006, at the age of 1991.)

Wow; so how did Madonna manage to trump that in the cardinal’s eyes?

“This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts,” Medina declared during the service.

Madge is currently working through the Latin American leg of her Sticky & Sweet tour, which includes two dates, the first being last night at National Stadium in Santiago. Approximately 60,000 people are expected at each performance.

Come now, Cardinal Medina; isn’t it a little dramatic to suggest that a pop singer is somehow more dangerous than a brutal dictator? Sure, she can be bossy at times. Not to mention somewhat mean.

Hmm; perhaps he may have a point…
