Madonna Finally Owns Adopted Baby Outright

Over a year and a half after first bringing Malawian orphan David Banda into their home, Madonna and Guy Ritchie‘s adoption of the boy has finally been finalized.

The court ruling took place in the Lilongwe High Court on Wednesday, after several delays resulting from the promotional schedule for Madge’s Hard Candy. In addition, the Malawian Human Rights Commission slowed down the process when it argued against the adoption, protesting what they interpreted to be “shortcomings” in the South African nation’s adoption laws.

Though neither new parent nor siblings Lourdes Leon, 11, and Rocco Ritchie, 7, were present for the proceedings, the singer’s lawyer, Alan Chinula, told press just outside the courthouse, “It is a positive and beautiful judgment that will have an impact on Malawi’s adoption laws.”

David is Madonna’s second adoption, her first being the adoption of a half-assed English accent.
