Stan Lee’s Most Unforgettable Characters: Dr. Doom

Lee has declared that Dr. Doom is his favorite villain, saying that “he wants to rule the world and if you think about it, wanting to rule the world is not a crime.” With the Fantastic Four comics selling so well, Lee wanted a sensational new villain to enter the mix. In deciding upon a name, Lee instantly latched onto Doctor Doom, loving its simplicity and implied menace. Since making his first appearance in Fantastic Four #5 in July 1962—wearing his trademark metal mask and green cloak—the villain has served as a primary antagonist for Marvel. Dr. Doom was ranked #3 on IGN’s list of the Top 100 Comic Book Villains of all time, and has even been declared Lee’s favorite evil character.
