Mary J. Blige, Super-Humanitarian

on Jun. 17, 2008 10:40 AM / 3 Comments

It's not enough for Mary J. Blige to share her world. She also shares her cash with retail victims.

The New York Post reports that the "Just Fine" singer was at the Diane von Furstenberg store in New York's Meatpacking District last week when she heard anguished wails at the cash register.

"The girl had a dress on hold that she loves, and the bill was $900. She thought it was only $500, and she couldn't afford it," recalls the paper's source.

Armed only with a purse full of credit cards, Blige valiantly stepped forward and paid the remaining balance on the dress.

"I insist," Blige reportedly told the woman. "I know what it's like to want something and not be able to have it."

When was the last time Mary J. Blige wanted something and couldn't have it?

She's turned herself into a straight-haired blonde, for Christ sake. Nothing is beyond her powers of acquisition.

wow... what about all those people out there that can't afford food?

Hah it was probably completely set up by the woman who "couldn't afford it." I would've done the same if I saw Mary Blige in the store... the woman probably begged her to spare $400.
